4-mile loop

Today: 4.5 miles
Week: 25 miles
Workout: Niketown - 4 mile loop of Central Park

I ran to E. Dr & 102nd St. Transverse, directed runners for about 30 minutes, and finished the 4-mile loop. Last night, I started feeling a sharp pain in my hip again. Oh no!
Yesterday: 6.5 miles
Week: 20.5 miles
Workout: YMCA - 72nd Transverse & E. Dr. - 86th St. - West Dr. - 72nd St. Transverse - 2 x Cat Hill - 1 mile cool down - YMCA

The workout was actually supposed to be a 4-mile tempo run, but I was trying to take it easy since I'm racing on Sunday. I tried to pace Lou for the last mile of his tempo run. I didn't think he'd be running faster than 6:00/mile. But then I heard him call my name as he passed me on West Drive, and I had to sprint to catch up to him. He was running so fast that I couldn't even finish the entire mile with him. The last mile must have been about 5:45.

Half Mile Repeats

Today: 6.5 miles
Week: 14 miles
Workout: Niketown - 84th St. & E. Drive in Central Park. Half mile repeats from 84th St. to 94th St. @10:00/mile. Recover from 94th back to 84th.

My eyes and throat were getting their fill of those little "leaves" falling off the trees. At one point, one of them must have gone down my throat because I couldn't stop coughing. What's with this chilly weather?!
Yesterday: 7.5 miles
Week: 7.5 miles
Workout: 6-mile loop of Central Park, followed by the lower loop.

Now I have some idea of what it must have been like in the MORE Half Marathon on Sunday, cold and wet.

Week: 19 miles
Workout: Niketown - E. Dr. - 102nd Transverse - W. Dr. - 72nd St. Transverse - stop in the middle of transverse.

I stood at 102nd St. Transverse for about 25 minutes before resuming my run. I probably averaged 9:00/mile. Got new pacer shirts today. Woo hoo!
Yesterday: 5 miles
Week: 15 miles
Workout: 5 mile loop of Central Park @8:20/mile

Strawberry Fields Hills

Today: 3 miles
Week: 10 miles
Workout: Niketown - 3 loops of Strawberry Fields

I wasn't aware there was a special event going on at Niketown tonight. When I got back to the store, I think I walked by Ndamukong Suh. I would NOT want that guy chasing me on the football field. I think Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez may have been at the store too. I wish I could have seen them, but alas, I was out running.

Mile Repeats

Today: 7 miles
Week: 7 miles
Workout: 4 mile repeats around the lower loop of Central Park.

6:00, 5:47, 6:01, 5:50. A rest of about 5:50 between each mile. I never felt comfortable. My hamstrings are still tight from last Monday. I guess I may have slightly injured them because a week should have been plenty of time for recovery.

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Today: 4 miles

Out and Back

Today: 7.5 miles
Week: 17 miles
Workout: YMCA - 25 minutes up W. Drive - retrace route

I was planning on running easy tonight, but ended up doing a tempo run. 6:30/mile. Despite the lingering soreness from Monday's workout, today's run felt good.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Today: 5 miles
Week: 9.5 miles
Workout: Niketown - E. Drive - 102nd - West Drive - retrace route.

I'm going to keep my whining to a minimum. My legs are sore from yesterday.

Relay Race

Today: 4.5 miles
Week: 4.5 miles
Workout: Warm-up from YMCA to dirt track on the northwestern tip of Central Park - run 4 repeats of the track - cool down back to the Y.

The 4 repeats of the track were basically all out sprints. We did them as part of a relay race. Fun but painful. My hamstrings are shot. At the end of the last repeat, I felt like my hamstrings were about to be pulled muscles. I also felt light headed, and it must have taken me 10 minutes to finally stop breathing hard. I haven't felt that bad since the 10-person 10K relay at the Armory a couple of months ago. OK. I'm done whining.

After this workout, I realize more than ever that I need to do more exercises for my legs. I should be doing some weights, lunges, or something! I also think doing some yoga will benefit my running too. I can't wait to try out the yoga workout DVD that Alanna got as a gift for me. Thanks again Alanna!

Run As One

Today: 7 miles
Week: 36 miles
Workout: 1 mile warm-up, 4 mile race, 2 mile cool down.

I didn't plan on running too hard, but it was a nice day and I felt OK. I ran 6:08, 5:58, 6:13, 5:58 for a total of 24:17 (6:04/mile). I was under 24:00 last year in the same race. But I haven't been training as hard this year, so I'm satisfied with the time.

My allergies are awful!!!

Olympians Past & Present

Today: 5 miles
Week: 29 miles
Workout: Niketown - West Side Hwy - 36th Street and return

Carl Lewis and Sanya Richards were at Niketown today. Carl Lewis won 4 gold medals in the Los Angeles Olympics, and Sanya Richards won the bronze medal in the 400m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and gold medal in the 400m at the 2009 World Championships. We took a group picture with both of them. I hope I get a copy. I still remember watching Carl Lewis on TV, in the '84 Olympics.

I'm running the Run As One 4 mile race tomorrow.

Strawberry Fields Hills

Today: 6 miles
Week: 24 miles
Workout: Warm-up from Niketown to Strawberry Fields. Run 9 loops of Strawberry Fields.

My legs were tired from yesterday, but after one or two loops they felt better. Free Jamba Juice after the run!!! Woo Hoo!!!

4x4

Yesterday: 6 miles
Week: 18 miles
Workout: 4 mile loop in Central Park @tempo pace, 4 x Cat Hill

It was probably in the upper 80s when I was running, bringing an already difficult workout to the puke inducing level. Seriously, I almost coughed up the sandwich I had for lunch, along with a lung after my first Cat Hill. I was ready to quit the workout right there. I made the mistake of trying to keep up with Lou on the tempo run. We did a sub-6:00 first mile. Definitely a mistake for me. I had to slow down and ended up running my 4 miles in 25:41 (6:25/mile). I did my 4 Cat Hills (from the Boat House) in 1:27, 1:32, 1:30, and 1:24.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Today: 6.5 miles
Week: 12 miles
Workout: Niketown - 65th - clockwise on the lower loop - 86th - across bridle path to East Drive - 108th - turn around and back to 65th.

I was too warm on today's run. I don't know how I'm going to manage summer workouts.

Monday, April 5, 2010

Today: 5.5 miles
Week: 5.5 miles
Workout: West Side Y - 2 loops of reservoir

Great turnout for the WSY workout tonight. There must have been over 20 people. Going to keep this post nice and short. I completely forgot that the NCAA Tournament championship was tonight. Go Butler!!!

Back in Central Park

Today: 5 miles
Week: 22 miles
Workout: 5 mile loop of Central Park at 8:00/mile

It's great to be back in the Big Apple. Although, I could have done without the huge crowd of people in Central Park. I ran easy with Farbod. For all those WSY'ers out there, yes, Farbod is still a member of the club.

West Covina

Can you see those snow capped mountains
in the distance? It just didn't feel like I was in California.

Thursday: 4 miles
Week: 17 miles
Workout: Up the big hill again.

Ran with my brother again. Where is the warm California weather? It was chilly this evening.
Wednesday: 3 miles
Week: 13 miles
Workout: Out and back on a slight hill.

One Big Hill

Tuesday: 6 miles
Week: 10 miles
